Omw, I can't believe I'm writing about poop....
I never thought that I would have to go into detail with my 3 (almost 4) year old about the digestive system.
Sunday afternoon: "Mommy, how does poop work?"
I tried to answer is as simple as possible. We eat food, our body uses what it needs and then the waste will go out as poop... Good enough right? Nope, WRONG!!!
"But how does food go in one colour and how does the body break it down and changes the colours and how does food make muscles and make us strong?
WTF. That is pretty intense.... Now I need to remember what I learned about enzymes and crap in university.
So, I start again… When we eat, we chew and swallow the food, the food moves down to our stomach and then in the stomach there is tummy acid that starts to break down the food. From there the food moves to the small intestine and there is enzymes and stuff that absorbs the nutrients that we need to make us strong and build muscles. Then the extra waste moves to the large intestine where it goes out as waste.
“But how does it turn brown?”
In the large intestine there is stuff that makes it brown… Ja, I really can’t remember much from university…
He was still not happy with the answer. So, I turned to YouTube… (link below)
He watched the video twice as it was really very interesting and very informative.
Then I remembered I have a digestive puzzle diagram thingy what I used in university and got out for him. He was super excited. First wanted to know who that was (LOL) then he was happy that it was “just a puzzle” and he explained the entire process and built the puzzle (with my help of course).
This morning he asked me to please show him the video again, as he would like to explain the process to his teacher today and can he please take the puzzle to school so he can show them…
